Visiting the house from A Christmas Story
I always wanted to visit the home in Cleveland, OH. As an added bonus, I slept at the Bumpus house.
“A Christmas Story” is a movie that I LOVE. It is one of my absolute favorite movies. When I got the chance to visit a friend, who lives near Columbus Ohio, I suggested we head to Cleveland for the weekend to visit the house used in the movie. Luckily, she was all for it! You’re probably thinking that the movie doesn’t take place in Ohio. You would be right. It actually takes place in Hammond, Indiana. The house they used for the movie is actually in Cleveland. The house is now a museum, where it is recreated to look like how the house was set up in the film. The owner also bought the neighboring house (the home of those pesky Bumpus dogs who ruined Christmas dinner) and the property across the street.
In the property across the street, they opened a gift shop and a museum that is included in the admission to the house. The museum has fun things, such as clothes and props used in the movie.
The fun part about going through the house is that (for the most part) you can touch and interact with everything in the house. If you notice in the photo above, laying on the beds in Ralphie’s room is something you aren’t able to do, but there is a reason for that: you can actually rent the house to stay over night in! You can sleep in Ralphie’s childhood bed, which would be an absolute dream of mine! During business hours, you wouldn’t have access to the first two floors to hang out and relax, due to the tours coming through, but there is an attic apartment that you can use during the day. After the museum closes for the day, the whole house is yours. As you can imagine, this comes at a pretty penny.
If you want a slightly similar experience, and what my friend and I did, you can stay at the Bumpus house next door, at a slightly cheaper price. Sure, you don’t see the inside of the Bumpus home in the movie, but they are referenced so much that it definitely…
